Music Video Genres

In order to gain a beter understanding of the genre, here are five music videos, some or all of which I will analyse to gain an understanding of common stylistic features. Unfortunately most of their embed codes have been disabled by request of the copyright owners, so links to their hosting are supplied instead.

Anti-Flag - This is the end (for you my friend)

Band Selection

I have chosen to create a promotional pack for the band "Anti-Flag", an American Punk-Rock group.

Here uis a video of a live performance of "This is the end, for you my friend" from their album "For Blood and Empire"

Despite their "Punk-Rock"sound, their songs and music videos diverge widely from conventional "punk-rock" bands, such as The Distillers, Blink 182 or Good Charlotte (who could be more accurately described as punk-pop). I beleive that this is down to "Punk-rock"s establishment as a conventional genre, as Anti-Flag's songs and videos are heavily politically motivated, much as Punk was when it began.

Therefore, in terms of researching the genre, it seems that the political inclinations of the band take priority over their style of music when it comes to the stylistic features of Music Videos, CD covers and Websites. I have classified Anti-Flag as "Left-wing political rock", as their music videos are far more similar to other bands of this inclination, such as Rage Against the Machine, System of a Down and Flobots, than they are to those of the conventional "punk-rock" idea.

Proposal

From the options available I have selected to create a promotional pack for a new album release; to include a Music Video, CD/DVD cover and a web homepage for the band.
